Dazu werden einleitend in Deutschland gängige Definitionen und Konzepte von Armut vorgestellt. Im darauffolgenden Kapitel soll geklärt werden, worum es sich bei Leistungen nach dem Sozialgesetzbuch II bzw. Hartz IV handelt und wie der Lebensstandard der betroffenen Familien und deren Kinder aussieht.
Das Hauptaugenmerkt der vorliegenden Arbeit liegt auf dem sich anschließenden Kapitel und beschäftigt sich mit den Lebenslagen der Kinder, die unter Armutsbedingungen aufwachsen. Nach einer Klärung der Begriffe „Lebenswelt“, „Lebenslage“ sowie einer Einführung in das kindbezogene Lebenslagenkonzeptes der AWO-ISS-Studien sollen, basierend auf Kinderbefragungen, subjektive Empfindungen herausgearbeitet sowie Lebensumstände und Einflüsse deutlich gemacht werden, durch die die Kinder vom Kleinkindalter an in den Nachteil geraten und die deren Zukunft nachhaltig beeinflussen.
Anliegen ist dabei, die Ist-Situation der betroffenen Kinder darzustellen und Einschränkungen, Bedingungen und subjektive Empfindungen aus kindlicher Perspektive zu beleuchten. Dazu werden, dort wo es sich anbietet, auch Ausschnitte aus einem im Zuge dieser Arbeit durchgeführten Interview mit den jüngsten beiden Kindern
